During the final stages of WW1, Russia broke out in a civil war. This led to Russia becoming a communist country, as well as siging a peace treaty with Germany and ending the war on the Eastern Front.

This week is all about one of the most unique aspects of WW1, trench warfare.

Trench warfare was a key component of WW1 and was unique in that it only developed in the one area of the war. It had a significant impact on everything to battle tactics to weapon development as both sides tried to break the deadlock of the Western Front.

While watching the first ½ of the video keep in mind the following questions:

Who was Archduke Franz Ferdinand?

Who were the Black Hand?

Why is his death referred to as the “shot heard around the world”?

Was it his assignation that caused World War I?

 

The Assassination of the Archduke

Using the information from the reading and the video create a newspaper article about the assassination (be sure to cover the who, what, when, where, why and how aspects in your article)
